Specialties and Areas of Specialization
First (Bachelor’s) Level of Higher Education – Full-Time Study
The first (Bachelor) level of higher education is the basic level of higher education in the specialty B11 Philology.
At the Faculty of Oriental and Slavic Philology, the Bachelor’s degree program is designed for 3 years and 10 months of full-time study.
Bachelor’s Degree Programmes Offered in 2026
Prospective students applying in 2026 may choose from the following Bachelor’s degree programmes:
- Azerbaijani Language and Literature and Translation
- Arabic Language and Literature and Translation, Second Oriental Language, and Western European Language
- Chinese Language and Literature and Translation, and Western European Language (online study format)
- Korean Language and Literature and Translation, and Western European Language (online study format)
- Persian Language and Literature and Translation, Second Oriental Language, and Western European Language
- Turkish Language and Literature and Translation, Second Oriental Language, and Western European Language
- Japanese Language and Literature and Translation, and Western European Language (online study format)
- Polish Language and Literature, Second Foreign Language, and Translation.
Qualification Awarded
Graduates of the Bachelor’s degree programme are awarded the qualification of Bachelor of Philology (according to the chosen specialization).
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit the results of the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) in four competitive subjects, in accordance with the Admission Rules of Kyiv National Linguistic University for 2026. No additional entrance examinations or competitive assessments are required.
Oriental and Slavic languages at the Faculty of Oriental and Slavic Philology are taught from beginner level ("from scratch"); therefore, no prior knowledge of Oriental or Slavic languages is required for admission.
Each year, approximately 300 students are admitted to the Faculty’s Bachelor’s degree programmes in Philology. The average academic group consists of 15 students, ensuring a more personalized learning environment.
Studies may be funded either through state-funded places or on a tuition-fee basis financed by individuals or legal entities.
Students from other regions of Ukraine are guaranteed accommodation in a university dormitory.
Second (Master) Level of Higher Education – Full-Time Study
The Faculty of Oriental and Slavic Philology offers Master’s degree programmes in the specialty B11 Philology with a duration of 1 year and 4 months.
Applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree (or a Master’s degree or the former Specialist qualification) in any specialty or field of study are eligible to apply for the Master’s programmes.

- Oriental Philology: Turkish Language and Literature, Translation, and Teaching Methodology
- Oriental Philology: Japanese Language and Literature, Translation, and Teaching Methodology
- Modern Philological Studies (Polish Language and a Second Foreign Language): Linguistics and Translation Studies
- Linguistic Text Analysis and Translation

Teaching of Oriental languages at Kyiv National Linguistic University began in 1989. Since then, the university has trained more than 30 highly qualified translators and teachers of Oriental languages.
The Faculty of Oriental and Slavic Philology of Kyiv National Linguistic University has remained a flagship of philological Oriental studies in Ukraine for more than thirty years. Approximately 1,000 students study at the Faculty, successfully mastering eleven Oriental languages: Arabic, Chinese, Turkish, Japanese, Persian, Korean, Azerbaijani, Hebrew, Crimean Tatar, as well as Polish and Czech.
Training in Oriental and Slavic languages at the Faculty is carried out at three levels of higher education:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Master’s degree
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
