During the 40 years the KNLU Department of Slavic Philology has prepared more than 2600 teachers and interpreters from 55 countries all over the world. Nowadays the citizens from 21 countries of Asia, Europe and America study Russian and Ukrainian. Moreover, they also study one of the languages of the European Union (English/German).

to Kyiv National Linguistic University

 

Training at the Faculty of Slavic Philology

BACHELOR DEGREE LEVEL

Bachelor's Higher Education Degree
Specialty – 035 Philology
Specialization – 035.034 Slavic languages and literature (translation included), major – Russian
Educational programs:
• The Russian language and second foreign language
• The theory and practice of translation from Russian and second foreign language
Bachelor’s degree is the level of higher education, which stipulates the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills sufficient for the successful performance of professional duties in the chosen specialty.
Admission of foreign citizens to study for the Bachelor’s degree is carried out on a competitive basis.
Entrance test is conducted in oral form in the Russian and English languages.
A condition for a foreign citizen enrollment for studying for a Bachelor's degree is the availability of his full secondary education and possession of the language of instruction at a level sufficient for the acquisition of educational material, which is confirmed by the available  certificate of completion of the preparatory department. After graduation, graduates are granted the "Bachelor of Philology, Specialist in Russian and English (or German) languages" qualification or "Bachelor of Philology, Translation Specialist (Russian and English)" qualification.
A foreign student is required to undergo a recognition procedure (nostrification) of his previously received Education Certificate issued by an educational institution of another state by the beginning of term II.
Tuition fee at the Bachelor degree level in 2019/2020 academic year is 40 090 UAH / year.

MASTER DEGREE LEVEL

Master’s Higher Education Degree
Specialty – 035 Philology
Specialization – 035.034 Slavic languages and literature (translation included), major – Russian
Educational and professional programs:
• Russian language and literature, the English language and teaching methods
• Aspect translation: Russian, English
Master’s degree is the higher educational level which is based on the Bachelor’s qualification and provides special profound knowledge and innovative skills.
Admission of foreign citizens to study for the Master’s  degree is carried out on a competitive basis.
Entrance test is conducted in the form of an entrance examination in specialty (Russian) and an oral examination in a foreign (English) language.
A condition for a foreign citizen enrollment for studying for a Master’s degree is the availability of a Bachelor's degree in a corresponding field.
Students who have got a Bachelor's degree out of Ukraine, applying for a Master’s program, submit documents that have passed the nostrification procedure in the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
After graduation, graduates get the "Master of Russian language and literature, philologist researcher, teacher of the Russian and English (or German) languages and Russian literature" qualification or "Master of Translation, philologist, translator of the Russian and English languages" qualification.
Tuition fee at the Master degree level in 2019/2020 academic year is 40 090 UAH / year.

 

Issuing the invitation to study and entry visa

In order to get an invitation to study, you need to send scan copies of the following documents to the Faculty of Slavic Philology ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ):
• a scan copy of the foreign passport and its notarized translation into Ukrainian;
• a scan copy of the education certificate with marks (points) and its notarized translation into Ukrainian (secondary education certificate for Bachelor’s degree/ Bachelor’s degree diploma for Master’s degree) or to provide the indicated above documents to the Commission for the selection of foreign citizens for training at the university. It is also required to indicate the country in which you will receive a student visa.
In case the documents are applied by the representative of a student it is necessary to issue a notarized power of attorney to receive an invitation.
Within 3 working days the Commission for the selection of candidates for training provides an answer on training opportunity. In case of positive answer the Commission prepares the invitation and explains the procedure for paying for visa support and ways of passing the invitation to the candidate if he can not receive it personally.
Upon obtaining the  invitation registration number it is necessary to pay for visa support in any bank branch.


Admission conditions

Admission to the training is performed according to the results of entrance examinations on the basis of an agreement signed by the university administration with an applicant or with other natural person or legal entity. Admission on the basis of interstate agreements on letters from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is possible.

 

Requirements for entrants

• the completion of secondary education
• satisfactory health condition

 

Duration of training

• Bachelor degree – 3 years and 10 months
• Master's Degree – 1 year and 4 months

 

List of documents required from foreign citizens for admission to the Faculty
of Slavic Philology of KNLU

1. The original invitation to study issued by the university.
2. Original and two notarized copies of the document certifying the previous education.
3. Original and two notarized copies of the document (annex to the document to certify education), which contains information on academic records.
4. Certificate of completion of the preparatory department (if available).
5. Three notarized copies of the passport (page with photo).
6. Notarized copy of medical certificate of health.
7. 12 photos size 3.5x4.5 cm (colored, matte).
Documents mentioned in clauses 2, 3, 4, 7 must be certified in accordance with the legislation of the country of issue and legalized in the manner prescribed by the state authorities of Ukraine, unless otherwise provided by international agreements of Ukraine.

 

Accommodation in KNLU dormitory

To get a dormitory accommodation, a foreign student must:
1. Conclude the contract for accommodation (building number 3, room 910).
2. Pay for accommodation.
3. Get a settlement warrant (building number 3, room 910).
4. Get a pass to the dormitory .
Foreign students are provided with the 3- and 4-person accommodation in the hostel of block type
Cost of living in the dormitory in 2018/2019 academic year is 6700 hrn a year.

 

Medical service

Foreign citizens must have an insurance policy to receive emergency medical care. The cost of the insurance policy is determined by agreement with the insurance company. The insurance policy is issued for the period of study at the university.

 

Residence Permit in Ukraine

To obtain Residence Permit in Ukraine, a foreign citizen within a three-day period upon arriving to Ukraine must submit the following documents to the Senior Inspector of the Department of International Affairs (Building 3, room 911):
1. Application form.
2. Passport of a foreigner with a "D" visa, unless otherwise is provided by the legislation and international treaties of Ukraine, and copies of pages with personal data and a visa.
3. Pages with personal data translated into Ukrainian and certified either by a notary or translation agency.
4. Receipt of state duty  payment.
5. Six 3,5x 4,5 cm size photos (colored, matte).
6. Insurance policy valid for the entire period of study.

Ukraine’s temporary Residence Permit is issued for the term of study.
In case information has changed during the period of validity of the temporary residence permit in the documents specified in sub-clauses 2-3, such documents shall be submitted within 10 days from the date of such changes to the Senior Inspector of the Department for International Affairs
The temporary permit is issued to a foreigner under the receipt, the last free page in a foreigner’s passport  is marked the receipt of the Permit’s issuing,  which is certified by the State Migration  Service of Ukraine (SMS)’s seal.
A foreigner, upon receipt of the Permit, must register the place of residence within 10 days and, in case of its change, re-register in accordance with the procedure established by the Law of Ukraine "On Freedom of Movement and Free Choice of Residence in Ukraine".
Residence Permit is issued to a foreigner on receipt, a mark on obtaining a Residence Permit is placed on the last free page of the passport document of a foreigner which is sealed by DMS.
After obtaining the permit a foreigner must register his place of residence within 10 days, and in case of change  re-register in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On freedom of movement and choice of residence in Ukraine".

Upon expiration of the period of study in the absence of grounds for extending the validity of the Permit of temporary residence or in case of being expelled from the university foreigner is obliged to:
1. Check out at the place of residence within a 7-day term.
2. Return a Permit of Temporary Residence in Ukraine and a passport to the Senior Inspector of the Department for International Affairs (building 3, room 911).
3. Receive the "Decision" of the DMS and passport in which the mark of a Residence Permit in Ukraine is cancelled.
4. Leave Ukraine.
